What Changes Underneath When You Level or Lift a Truck
Two inches at the front end changes angles you can't see from the driver's seat.

A leveling kit or a lift kit is popular because of what you see from the driver's seat and the curb, a taller stance, bigger tires clearing the fenders, a truck that looks the part for hauling a boat down the bayou or working a rutted parish road after a storm. What most people don't think about is what moves underneath, out of sight, the moment the ride height changes.
What actually shifts
Raising the front of a truck changes the angles the control arms and tie rods sit at, which changes camber and toe even if nobody's touched the alignment. It also changes the angle the driveshaft and CV joints run at, which is exactly why C V SHAFTS is one of the four words painted across the front of our building, they take real wear when that angle gets pushed past what the factory geometry expected. Steering geometry shifts too, which is part of why a truck that's just been leveled can develop a wander or a pull that wasn't there before the kit went on.
What has to be reset afterward
A leveling kit isn't finished when the spacers or struts are installed. The alignment has to be reset to match the new ride height, not left on the factory numbers the truck came with. If wheels or tires changed size at the same time, which is common with a lift since bigger tires are usually the whole point, the tire pressure monitoring system needs to relearn the new sensor positions and rolling circumference. Skip that step and the dash light either stays on for no real reason or stops warning you when it should.

Wheel spacers change the math too
Spacers push the wheel further out from the hub, which widens the stance and can clear bigger tires under a lift, but it also changes the load angle on the wheel bearing and can affect steering feel at speed. It's not a reason to skip a spacer if that's the look and clearance you're after, it's a reason to have someone who actually knows what changed underneath check the truck afterward instead of assuming a bolt-on part needs nothing else done to it.
Why it matters more here
A lot of the driving around Houma and Terrebonne Parish isn't smooth highway. Oyster shell roads, gravel camp roads, standing water after a hard rain, all of it works a suspension harder than a dry interstate commute would, and a leveled truck with an alignment left on old numbers wears its tires unevenly faster in that kind of driving, not slower. Getting the geometry reset right after the lift goes on isn't an optional extra step. It's the difference between a truck that tracks straight down a gravel road and one that's constantly correcting itself.
What we check after a kit goes on
- Alignment reset to the new ride height, not left on factory numbers
- TPMS relearn if wheel or tire size changed
- Wheel torque checked after the first miles on the new setup
- Suspension and steering components inspected for anything the added height is stressing
Get it done right the first time
If you're putting a leveling kit on, or you've already got one on and the truck's been pulling or wandering since, bring it by. We'll check what the kit actually did to the geometry and get it back where it needs to be. A truck that's been driving on a bad alignment for a while is also worth a look at the brakes and shocks while it's up on the lift, since the same rough parish roads that wear an alignment out early tend to wear those parts early too.
